Installation of sound, lighting and visual technology in the Solidarity Arena event venue
Adapt has, on behalf of the Ahlbom family, carried out an installation of sound, lighting and image technology in a brand new room under Tele2 Arena. The assignment was a complete solution from idea and design to design and finally installation. Stockholm's most modern and flexible event venue has been built in the premises.
The event room has a capacity of 1500 people and consists of 3 zones that can be used independently but also as a single large area. The event areas work just as well for corporate events and dinners as for concerts and nightclubs, which places high demands on the technical solution installed.
Since the premises were not completed when our design work began, our work started with an analysis of the building and concept drawings that existed. Based on these, we created 3D visualizations of the premises so that we could realistically draw up the technology and test in advance how it would work. The visualizations were presented together with a technical specification and description of the different functions so that everyone involved in the project got the same picture of what to do.
The lighting plant divided into general lighting, environmental lighting, stage light and power light.
Environmental lighting consists of 40 Martin RUSH PAR1 used to illuminate all the pillars in the room, 18 Martin RUSH MH2 for point lighting and movement, and just over 300 traxon LED dots mounted in custom-made rails in the ceiling. Each "dot" can be controlled individually and used both as a general light and as an effect.
The stage light consists of 7 Martin RUSH MH1 "spits", 9 martin RUSH MH2 "washar", 11 sunstrip for public light and 10 Selecon Rama Fresnel as front lights.
The power light mainly used for nightclub and special effects. It consists of 8 Martin Atomic strobe and 8 martin rush MH3 "beam" that throw out extremely focused light beams throughout the room.
All lighting equipment is controlled by wireless touch panels. When the room is divided into 3 separate zones, each zone is controlled by its own panel. When the room is used as a single large area, all light as a whole is controlled via a wireless panel or with DMX from mixing location.
Image technology is an important part of a modern event venue. The challenge at Solidarity Arena was that the venue is very narrow, which would make it difficult for the guests at the back to see the stage. This, combined with the fact that the room could be divided into 3 zones, required an installation with many image surfaces and cameras.
Our solution meant that 8 2.65 m motor screens and associated projectors were installed evenly throughout the room. 4 pcs in Zone 1, 2 pcs in Zone 2 and 2 pcs in Zone 3. All projectors were connected to an image mixer placed in the mixing location and from it you can now control which images to send out to which zone. Inputs to the image mixer are located in each zone, in the mixing area and on the stage. In this way, we get a very flexible system that works both when the zones are used individually and as a whole, while it is easy to connect sources in different locations.
In order for all guests to clearly see what is happening on stage, regardless of where in the room they sit, 2 remote cameras are installed. They are controlled from mixing location and can be programmed for different positions. The cameras are also used for documentation because all outgoing image/audio can be recorded.
As a stage background, a 6×3 m Martin LC-2140 LED screen is installed. The screen is low-resolution and is used for logos and graphics. It is part of the stage show and acts as a great light effect. The LED wall is controlled from a Martin Maxedia Compact media server that is packed with different kinds of graphics.
In front of the LED wall is a 5 m canvas with associated bright projector. It is used for movie viewing/TV and when you want to run large presentations from the stage.
Special effects is an obvious feature of a modern nightclub. At Solidarity Arena there are 4 CO2 Jets installed that blow out icy carbonic acid. To highlight the light effects, there are also 3 Martin K1 Haze machines scattered around that provide a smooth fog throughout the room.
The sound system was previously procured and installed by Hages in collaboration with the manufacturer Bose. It consists of a well-developed RoomMatch system that is specially adapted to the premises. Adapt's mission was to ensure that the sound system would work together with other equipment and to supplement with the required peripherals, such as digital mixer tables, multisystems, wireless microphones/headsets and DJ equipment.
