As the days get colder and rainier, the Caribbean can seem far away. But in Frederikshavn, Denmark, the tropical climate is closer than you think.
At Quality Hotel The Reef, guests can experience an entire Caribbean day in just 90 minutes. The sun rises, the day alternates between tropical calm and dramatic storms, before the sunset brings the experience to a close.
Behind the changing weather conditions is an interactive installation where sound, light, and video interact with the water park’s waves, waterfalls, and rain showers.
About the Project
Client: Quality Hotel The Reef
Location: Frederikshavn, Denmark
Experience: A Caribbean Day from Sunrise to Sunset
equipment : Audio, Lighting, Video, and Integrated Control
Control System: Adapts BLOCKS
When the entire environment becomes part of the story
The experience isn't based on a single screen or lighting effect. The entire water park is used to create the feeling of a living Caribbean landscape.
Over the course of 90 minutes, the weather around the guests changes. Lighting and video content shift as the day progresses, while the soundscape enhances everything from calm tropical weather to rain and thunderstorms.
At the same time, the technology is coordinated with the park’s physical effects. Waves, waterfalls, and rain showers become part of the same story, making the changes visible, audible, and tangible.
BLOCKS connects the entire facility
The installation is managed through our BLOCKS-based control system. The system integrates the technology throughout the entire facility—from the water park to conference rooms, restaurants, and common areas.
A unified interface makes advanced equipment easier to use in day-to-day operations. Staff can control the system via touchscreens or mobile devices and do not need to manage each technical component separately.
This creates a flexible solution that is easy to use, even though many systems work together behind the scenes.
equipment that transforms a place
The result is a permanent installation where technology isn't just on display—it transforms the entire environment and makes the visitor part of the experience.
Sound, light, video, and water work together to create a journey from sunrise to sunset, complete with tropical rain showers and thunderstorms along the way.
