Installation and operation of equipment in the Swedish EXPO2020 pavilion in Dubai

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adapt has been involved in the implementation of the World Expo EXPO2020 in Dubai. For over three years we have been working on the project and the Swedish pavilion in Dubai. Our assignment has been to plan, install and operate all the AV equipment for the stages and the event and conference floor. During the 6 months of the exhibition, we conducted more than 250 events in the pavilion.

The EXPO2020 world exhibition has been running from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. The theme of the exhibition has been Connecting Minds - Creating the Future focusing on opportunities, mobility and sustainability. The Swedish pavilion, the Forest, is located in the sustainability section of the exhibition. It is a sustainable building made entirely of wood with the aim of showcasing Swedish innovation, sustainable solutions and at the same time inspiring a greener transition. More than 190 countries have been represented in Dubai during the World Expo.

What has struck me most is how flexible, fast and collaborative Adapt's people are - even when we come up with a lot of quick assignments and changes

Ludwig Daver, Deputy Commissioner General, EXPO2020

Installation of technical solutions for the Swedish Pavilion

During the World Expo, together with our colleagues at CT, we have carried out more than 250 event in the pavilion; physical, digital and hybrid. There have been all kinds of projects ranging from one-man presentations on stage to full-scale live broadcasts, fashion shows and product launches.

What we have done in the pavilion is to install all types of AV equipment, including sound, lighting and video equipment streaming technology. All equipment has been connected via a network managed by the control system BLOCKS. This has allowed us to control all connected equipment from a single piece of software. With BLOCKS, our technicians and pavilion staff have been able to easily control all equipment from their usual mobile devices; mobile phones, tablets and computers.

Hybrid meetings increasingly important for communication

Ludwig Daver, Deputy Commissioner General of EXPO2020, is on hand in the Forest pavilion in Dubai. According to him, the value of the participation of Adapt cannot be overestimated. There are many things that the participants had to find new ways to carry out and do differently because of the pandemic. For example, companies have not been able to invite as many participants to Dubai and therefore hybrid meetings have become an increasingly important factor. Using Adapt's equipment, knowledge and experience, they have instead connected speakers from around the world with the event and conference floor in Dubai. As a result, participants have been able to attend meetings and conferences at the World Expo despite being on the other side of the world.

Ludwig Daver explains how the cooperation with Adapt worked

Strong teamwork in the Swedish pavilion

It has been an exciting time and one of the things that has characterised the work has been the strong team spirit among those who have worked in the pavilion. Ludwig says that it has also placed great demands on the cooperation to build and run the event and conference section. Those who have worked on site in the Swedish pavilion have more or less lived inside the fair. The work has been constantly changing and they have not known what is going to happen from one moment to the next. Therefore, flexibility has been the key to well-functioning teamwork in order to solve all the tasks together.

A world-class project

At Adapt we think it has been incredibly exciting to be part of such a large and important project. That's why it's been motivating to contribute what we do best. We have shared our knowledge and experience of equipment, installation and live streaming and how physical meetings become digital. In doing so, we have been involved in setting the structure and creating the conditions for everyone to be able to conduct physical meetings, hybrid events and fully digital broadcasts. Many thanks to all the colleagues, partners and clients we have had the pleasure of working with.
